Job Description and Duties

The Office of Legal Affairs (OLA), Employment Advocacy and Prosecution Team (EAPT) assists in investigations into employee misconduct, advises on disciplinary decisions, and pursues disciplinary actions on behalf of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). In addition, EAPT litigates appeals to the State Personnel Board (SPB), requests to file charges with the SPB, or whistleblower complaints before the SPB, and defending or prosecuting petitions for writs of administrative mandamus before the superior and appellate courts.

Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager II (Supervisory), the Office Technician (Typing) will independently perform administrative office work for OLA and provide support to multiple areas such as front reception, procurement, and travel. Duties include mail and document handling, data entry, logging and tracking, corresponding, and completing forms. The incumbent should be comfortable with managing interruptions and reprioritizing tasks under pressure.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.

Human Resources Technology System
The California Department of Corrections Rehabilitation (CDCR) Headquarters has implemented a new automated system to streamline the hiring process. The Human Resources Technology System (HRTS) is an intuitive, user-friendly system that provides the applicant access to real-time updates throughout the hiring process.

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. Working Conditions

OLA provides a secured access facility with free on-site parking and is situated in Sacramento within the 95827 zip code. The Department will provide a lap top.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid telework after the probation period, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. During the probationary period, the work hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment. Telework is only available to residents of California.

Essential Functions

  • Perform timekeeping duties by coordinating the distribution, collection, review, and processing of monthly timesheets and providing to Personnel;
  • Prioritize and organize workload to ensure time frames are met;

  • Track, maintain, and organize office supply inventory, and order office supplies as needed. Maintain the Supply Database, and coordinate all procurement paperwork with appropriate staff;
  • Perform data entry work in order to input, extract and disseminate information, track documents, maintain and update records, logs, etc.;
  • Perform mathematical computations such as basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to complete assigned tasks;
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with Department employees at all levels;
  • Operate various office machines/equipment such as the telephone, photocopier, fax, personal computer, mail machine/scale/meter, calculator, etc. to produce completed assigned duties;
  • Provide new staff with On-the-Job Training, as required;
  • Back up other staff in the contracts and training teams as needed;
  • Lift, carry, move and/or drag items such as reams of paper, binders, manuals, training material, etc. weighing up to 20 pounds;
  • Attend meetings as required, and complete all annual training requirements;
  • Travel may be required to off-site locations, to various parts of the state via vehicle, train, bus, and/or plane.
